I'm Lookin' for a Real Love

As you may or may not know, I've been on a relentless hunt for this 4 inch Prada shoe made from Kid leather. It's such a cute, simple little shoe. It's one of Rihanna's faves. It's amazing to me. It's the perfect addition to your closet because in addition to being dress-upable, or dress-downable, it goes with practically anything that doesn't have white or navy thread. For me, there's really only one downside— it's a $690 shoe.

Steve Madden gave me hope.

Currently Listening: "Not Like Crazy"

This song will forever remind me of no one I've ever known, but someone I'll always love. It's so sensual, but not erotic. It's the sex without the skank. That's what it was. It's whatever you get when you mix lust with love, and dilute it with honey. Her voice is so smooth. You just want a glass of wine and an empty apartment... and Idris Elba.

I kid, I kid. This song is truly beautiful. Jill Scott is an amazing artist. I'll listen to this six times before I turn the song.

What's a King to a God?

So, if you've been living under a rock, and didn't know the No Church in the Wild video was out, it's out. Of course, I'm here to kill the mood and give my opinion on it. Let's talk.

From a quality standpoint, I think this video is amazing. Romain Gavras did his thuggy thang. The sequences are amazing, the time variations are impeccable. I know it took days and several cameras and all types of crazy shit to shoot this video. However, I have on problem with it. Before I get to that, I'll throw you some stills.

Have you guessed my problem yet? I'll give you a hint— Where are Jay-Z and Kanye West? NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. Now, call me old-fashioned, but shouldn't artists be in the visuals for songs? I mean, shit. What, is Jay-Z just too rich to be in his own music video? Yung! Get over here. I really just can't understand why they couldn't include themselves in the riots and rebellion. I love the concept of the video. It fits the song without being too predictable and is sadly relevant. Aside from my personal frustrations, this is an amazing video, production-wise. The color-correcting is insane.

Without further ordue, here you are. Kanye West and Jay-Z's No Church in the Wild featuring Frank Ocean. Watch and enjoy!

My Instaweekend!

I had a fairly eventful weekend. So eventful, in fact, I'm just fully recovering as I write this post. Ha, I kid. No, but really, I rarely participate in any Memorial Day festivities, so this weekend entailed waaaay more than I could have ever expected. Anyway, I'm going to give you insight to my weekend via Instagram pictures that were taken between Friday and Monday. They're nothing too crazy, I have family following me on Instagram. But umm... enjoy? Or at least try to. *le shrug*

The Genesis to a messy, messy Friday night. I was terribly sleepy, but I wanted to see my honey bun, so I had to part ways with my home for the night and hang with my down heaux. I had a blast, I missed my Kny.

Sunday's Midnight Theories: "Molly"

This is a new verse from local artist, MTown. He transcribes the rush you get from being in love with it's metaphorical tie to being high, off of the drug Molly. Personally, I love this. The title's not too long (haha), the singing has character, I'm immersed. Take a listen, let me know what you think. Let him know what you think.

For more music from him, check fuckaname.com and follow him on Twitter.

I really think this compilation will give way more insight to MTown and who he really is as an artist. He made the cover art, too (I'm guessing). It's ill, too. But, go ahead, listen and enjoy. Put it on your iPod, and just let it repeat, honey.

Download it, too.

Breaking News: Local Rapper Facial Hair Refractory

So, earlier today, local NC artist V Wilickers tweets that 2Chea, MTown, J.K. the Rapper and himself will all give the barbershop a break... until they make it. The tweet goes as follows:

I'm elated! Not many people know, buuuut... I'm a facial hair fanatic. So, not only will they all be serving the most majestic afros for lunch, but they will also be serving the illest facial hair, FOR YOUR NERVES. I am so excited. I love facial hair. It was almost too good to be true, but then MTown confirms it with:

How do you feel about this? What's your take on facial hair, or the new afro trend? Comment below to let me know how you feel!

Magic, You Know I Spit That N!@#$

A long while ago, in February, I shot a music video for Atlanta talent, Niko Da Don in conjunction wit J.K. the Rapper. We had a really fun time, haha. I was browsing through my iPhoto albums, only to find an event with tons of pictures that I thought I'd share. We haven't done a really fun video in a while.

This one was particularly hilarious to shoot just because I had to sit on the hood of my car for some of the shots, and hang out of the car for others. It wasn't that dangerous because we shot it in an empty lot, but still. It was like 52˚ outside, but it wasn't too bad. Time flies when you're having fun.

Maybelline: Instant Age Rewind

Wassup kiddies? Today, or tonight, rather, I'm reviewing Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind finishing powder. It comes in a sweet little case and apparently contains goji berries.

If you have any questions/comments, you know what to do. It's to be purchased in the cosmetic sections of and Target, Walmart, or drug store for around $5. I've used this for a while now and I would just like to put emphasis on not only the simple fact that my face is shine-free at the finish of my day, but also the impact that that alone has on my make-up. The oil and shine that your face creates over the course of your day is usually what decreases your make-up's stay, so I'd strongly suggest investing in a finishing powder to absorb the oils your face produces to keep your fabulous on all damn day.

Don't Sweat the Technique

Hey! I'm so super excited... do you want to know why? Of course not. Am I gonna tell you anyway? Of course! I've become a master of retouching. It's pretty crazy how it happened. I took these gorgeous head shots of my sweet lil' Bri Barksdale the other day. I got to retouching them, and it was pretty intense, and slightly amazing. To give you a quick glimpse of what I'm talkin' bout, check me out.

Yeah, so I'm not gonna go into detail about my new technique, but... it's the truth, why would I lie? Haha. No, honestly, this is the most textured, flawless skin-smoothing I've ever done. So, let's venture away from my talents, and let's focus on Bri. Is her smile not to die for?! She's gorg!

New Heat: "In the Morning" x Viva La Fresh

So, a local talent Viva La Fresh, alongside V Wilickers has made a pretty dope remix to "In the Morning" by Drake and J. Cole. I personally like it more than the original, however I personally don't like J. Cole, so... yeah. But here you are, listen and enjoy.

Comment below to lemme know how you feelin'. You can download it here. For more music from them, follow them @VivaLaFresh @2amV

Photo-update: Bri Barksdale

Today, I did a photoshoot with the lovely Bri Barksdale. We're at it again tomorrow, but I finished some shots, so I figured I'd let you in to see what was up behind my lens these days. The shoot features the choco cutie in green liner and a turban. How y'all feel?

Lasting Satin Finish: Kate Moss

So, today, I felt cute. Keyword: felt, I looked an absolute atrocity. After completing a shoot, I was so amazed with a lipstick I bought last night that I used in a shoot, I decided I'd review it. Kate Moss' new Lasting Finish collection with Rimmel London is awesome! Take a look at this video and let me know of any thoughts you have of it.

No Dragging, No Drying

Something that's caught my eye on TV lately is this 14-hour Super Stay lipstick by Maybelline. Theoretically, it's supposed to be opaque and consistently gorgeous for 14 hours at a time. They've got all these models in the commercial with this Eternal Rose color. It's like this bright pink craziness. The colors in the collection aren't all that, but fourteen hours of color? I'll settle, I think.

However, before I buy anything, I always check out a few reviews to see if it hold truth. I'll probably do a make-up haul of some capacity sometime this week. I need some new lip colors.
I also want to try some Maybelline foundation. Teyana Taylor raved about it in a make-up tutorial, so I'm sort of interested. I need concealer, too... and some brushes.

BUT, anyway— here are some reviews on the lip color after the jump.

Sunday's Midnight Theories: "First Aid Kit"

So, apparently I'm a deadbeat blogger 'cause I missed it last night. I was probably sleep, to be honest. But, here you are. This is MTown's "First Aid Kit," of the Sunday's Midnight Theories compilation. It's something smoother to listen to, a bit different than the usual upbeats. Let me know if you love it. Comment below.

Currently Listening: "Turtle"

I hate when this happens. This song has been in my head since Friday and it's driving me insane for a few reasons. Nonetheless, this is a pretty tight cover to White Hinterland's "Icarus" by a local artist 'round my parts, JK the Rapper. You've probably heard this instrumental here, in a Revlon lipstick commercial.

Apparently, the turtle is a metaphor for something else small and green... and it got stuck in my head when I came across a turtle in the middle of the street. Look at em!

Listen and enjoy. The singing's his own. That's all I can say. For more of his music, visit fuckaname.com/illlife... for some of his older music... good luck. To contribute to the cause, check fuckaname.com/gpc and to check out more of the FANG camp's music, hit up fuckaname.com as well.

3 Ways to Summerize Your Clothes

This summer, money's tight. I still go to the thrift and pick something up from time to time, but I've found that when you go to the thrift three times each week, and find a few things each time you go, you spend more money that you'd originally planned in a month's time.

Anyway, I've been trying to figure out ways to turn the clothes I'd normally abandon for the rest of my life from the previous winter into interesting pieces for the summer. So, I thought I'd give you the three simplest DIY ways to transition an unwanted winter wardrobe into summer sensationals.

If you're interested in some ways to get it right for the summer, look past the jump.

Air Made of Bricks

This is a wishlist, or moreso... to-do list of things I need to own between now and the middle of the fall.

I don't want to own Solange, by the way. I just need her braids... and her shades.

Currently Listening: "Do Ya Like"

I was on Skype with my friend Najm and he reminded me that I loooove this song. I didn't want to admit it while we were on Skype because I told him to cut the shit when he asked if I minded if he played music. Anyways, here ya go.

It features a sample of Adele's, "Melt My Heart to Stone", also beautiful and presented below.

Does anyone know how old Donald Glover is? I'd like a piece of that action.

Listen and enjoy. If you know of anything I'd be interested in, based on this post... let me know. I love to listen to new music.

Throwback Thursday #1

I never post pictures for throwback Thursday, but here you go because I love this picture.

I don't know how old I was, where this was taken or who the photographer was. All I know is that this was in the 90s, so the styling is oddly timeless. Red lips and a red hair-tie was a great idea. I'm obsessed with this picture and inspired by it.

Hair Inspiration: Solange Knowles

For the absolute longest, I've been too inspired by Solange Knowles' hair. From the short natural hair, to the huge fro, I've been all over it. And now... it's this:

Yes nigga! Box braids.

Being natural, it's hard finding styles to implement and keep your hair journey interesting. I know that with box braids, my interests will be fulfilled for two months, even. I'm so excited to get my hair braided, especially since I dyed it black. I hate my hair black.

I'll keep you posted on the dream, though.

Peace,
Jetson

DIY Jacquie Aiche Bodychain

So, I don't know if you're as obsessed with Rihanna as I am, buuuut.. I pay tons of attention to what she's wearing. One thing that seems to give her look a little extra uumph is her body chain. She wears it all the time. It's a Jacquie Aiche 14kt gold body chain, and it'll run you about $2,315 dollars. I guess it's cool for her. She practically lives in the thing.

"I never get paid in Trident Layers"

Hey people. So, I guess this is sort of a professional update of sorts. I just wanted to brag on a few things that have advanced my professionalism over the past week or two. I've been trying to get my shit together, because a successful business is an organized business.

So, hmm... where to start? Well, first of all, I've directed all inquires that begin from text messages or social networks straight to my business e-mail. In the interest of time, an iPhone or Twitter may seem like decent places of business, but in the long run, someone who you can only contact in their work e-mail is just someone that seems more professional.
Also, I've made a video treatment template. I knew what the template entailed. After writing six or seven treatments between two days, you get sick of typing the same thing over and over again. Plus, with a template prepared, I know I've included all the necessary pieces.

For the next venture, gather 'round lil niggas, I got a story to tell:
So, I go to Walgreens to print out the pictures (that I took) of me and my younger sister for my mom's Mom's Day present, right? Okay. So I get to the counter, the pictures are prepaid and everything, then the man behind the counter is like, "Ma'am, I'm going to need to see the photo release form". He got all snappy. So I try to explain that I took the pictures or whatever, but he obviously doesn't believe me (I think it was the skin color, the sweats, and the 3s, myself), so I give him a dirty look. I ended up having to show him the consent form I have on file with them!
All in all, I ended up realizing that if I don't provide people with prints... they must go through that bullshit when they want to get their pictures printed. So lo and behold... I made a photo copyright release form! Along with that can a model consent form.

So alla dat got me feelin mad official. PLUS, I'll serenade you with some pictures of Scotty Bonds, CEO of Scotty's Kupcakery, in Greensboro, NC. I took these today.

It's Summertime and We're Young

Check out the lil' homie MTown's latest verse "Building a Pyramid Near You". The title's a little long for my taste, but... who am I, but a mere spectator? Anyways, be anticipating Sunday's Midnight Theories some oncoming Sunday midnights. It'll be some verses, food for thought. I'll post them all.

Keep listening,
Jetson

DIY Inspiration

I glanced through some Prada today, only to find nothing but DIY inspiration. These Prada jewelry pieces have me written all over them. Statement pieces, but they're so simple.

The shirt on the left is mens (obviously enough) but I'm obsessed. The clutch on the right is my everything. We'll be carrying these out sooner than later, so be ready!

— Jetson

You're welcome

Hi there. Welcome to my blog. This will be a blog of my thoughts. I don't want to call it a fashion blog, because it's not limited to pictures of Rihanna's latest pair of shoes that I can't afford. I don't want to call it a DIY blog, because though I pursue them, I'm a pretty mediocre DIYer. I can't call it a diary because then you won't follow it. I won't call it a style blog because I'm not as stylish as I'd like to let on.

I'll be honest. I don't know what you should expect from this. I don't know what I'll post. I don't know what this will be. All I know is that I'll post once each day, at the least. I'll try to put in some multimedia to keep it jumpin. I don't know much, but the journey is more important than the destination, right? Right.

Yours truly,
Jetson
